I don't remember every detail of that first payday anymore. I couldn't give you an account of where the money went. But I remember those purchases, which says something about how much the occasion mattered to me. I've bought plenty of clothes since then, and none of them have stayed in my mind just like that one.

(It's Monday)

It was special. It was the first time I felt I was able to make a choice with money I'd earned. There's pride in it because working was becoming part of my life, and I was learning what it felt like to work and use my money for whatever I wanted. It makes me curious about other people's first purchases. A friend of mine, for example, spent her first paycheck on a summer vacation to the beach, something she wanted so badly. Those decisions are so personal. Mine was pretty girly and simple: new clothes for me and my brother.

So, let's get that paycheck, people! As I settle into another Monday and another week of work, I'm giving that first payday a little appreciation. Back when I got my first job, I had no idea how many working Mondays were ahead of me. I did, however, have new jeans after a full month of work. And I was able to plan on getting another, maybe the next month. And that was all that mattered to me.
Before this week gets going, I'm making room for our usual Monday morning meme meeting. I wish your paycheck arrives soon! October is loooong, but just keep it up! It's almost over.
